Welcome to NEES@Lehigh

The US National Science Foundation has established the George E. Brown, Jr. Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (NEES) as a national, networked collaboration of geographically-distributed, shared-use experimental research equipment sites. Each site has telepresence and teleoperation capabilities, computer models and physical test specimens, which will transform the environment for earthquake engineering. NEES@Lehigh is an equipment site specializing in real-time multi-directional (RTMD) testing for earthquake simulation of large-scale structural systems.

The Lehigh University RTMD facility located in the ATLSS Research Center (IMBT Laboratory) allows for multi-directional real-time seismic testing, combined with real-time analytical simulations, to investigate the seismic behavior of large-scale structural components, structural sub assemblages, and super assemblages (systems). This is achieved through the combined use of dynamic actuators, reaction wall, and strong floor. This facility is also designed to support the development of new hybrid testing methods for real-time multi-directional (RTMD) testing of large-scale structures, including multi-substructures, where the substructures involved are at different geographic locations connected by the NEES network.

The RTMD Facility contains a unique system enabling real-time hybrid simulation to investigate the multi-directional seismic response of structural components and systems. The workshop will provide prospective RTMD users with information necessary to develop a research proposal that takes advantage of the capabilities of the RTMD Facility. The registration is free and open to anyone who is interested in using the RTMD Facility.

Webinar details

The RTMD facility will be performing a high level MCE hybrid simulation on November 7th, 2008, beginning at 11am, EDT.

Please visit the project webpage and the NEEScentral activities sites for more details.
